Asian American Brain Injury Research Study
My name is Patricia Lee and I am currently a doctoral student in clinical psychology at the University of Massachusetts Boston. For my dissertation project, I am interested in examining how Asian American adults cope with brain injury and the relationships between Asian values, coping style, and well-being. I am writing to inquire if you or anyone you know may be interested in participating.
Participating in the study involves being interviewed about your brain injury history and experience, taking a short cognitive measure, and filling out a booklet of questionnaires about your coping process to brain injury, service utilization, cultural values, and current well-being.
Some of the requirements for this study are that you:
- Are 18 or older
- Identify as Asian, Asian American, or a specific Asian ethnic group
- Had a brain injury, which includes but is not limited to traumatic brain injury, serious concussion, stroke, brain tumor, or infection
- Are sufficiently fluent in English
Participation should take approximately 3 hours to complete and involves 1-3 visits. It can take place either at the University of Massachusetts Boston, your home, or a location that is convenient for you. You will receive $50 for completing the study.
I hope that you will consider participating in this study. The results from my study will reveal ways in which we can better serve Asian Americans, both in rehabilitation and mental health settings.
Sincerely,
Patricia Lee, M.A.
